About this Episode
“Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.” This saying of Jesus from Matthew 12:21 has troubled generations of people. It is hard in a couple of ways. First, it is hard to understand. It is not immediately clear what Jesus means by blaspheming the Spirit. Neither is it clear why this is not forgivable when a word spoken against the Son of Man is forgivable. Second, it is hard to accept. It is disturbing to think that we can say or do something that forever cut us off from the possibility of God forgiving us. We welcome you to join us this Sunday as we address these questions and attempt to apply this hard saying in a way that honors the context in which our kind Savior gave this warning.
