To Touch Transcendence (John 14:1-7)

One of my favorite disciples is Thomas. Not because of his doubts (though I certainly resonate with those) but because of how earnestly he followed Jesus. He wanted to be connected to something bigger than himself, to know that his life meant something, to encounter ultimate reality. In pursuing transcendence, Thomas shows us one of the fundamental drives of the human heart and elicits a promise from Jesus never before thought possible: “You can know the Father.” You can touch transcendence.
